Wells Fargo was founded in 1852 in New York City, New York and is headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They are the second largest US bank by market capitalization, deposits, debit cards and home mortgage servicing and the fourth largest by assets. Well known for their 150 year history and recognizable name and stagecoach logo, the merger of Norwest and Wells Fargo & Company in 1998 resulted in choosing to rename themselves as Wells Fargo even though Norwest was actually the surviving entity. Wells Fargo is a subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Company, an American diversified financial services that is headquartered in San Francisco, California, operates globally and one of the Big Four banks in the United States. They have 6335 branches, 12,000 ATMs and over 70 million customers nationally. Wells Fargo offers a wide range of financial services products in 80 business lines, falling under three different headings: Wholesale Banking, Community Banking and Wealth, Brokerage and Retirement. They also offer personal, business and commercial banking, equity loans, mortgages, corporate risk solutions and insurance. They were the first bank to introduce internet access to banking accounts in 1995. Wells Fargo has a strong international presence, with main offices in London and Hong Kong and is aggressively expanding their international investment banking practices. They also have a strong environmental record, ranking No.1 among banks in Newsweek magazines "Green Rankings" of the United States 500 largest companies, having given over $6 billion towards financing environmentally beneficial companies and being a member of the US Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders program.
