The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is the largest Canadian financial institution with operations in Canada, the United States and 48 more countries. RBC serves over 17 million customers with almost 1200 locations and has over 80,000 employees worldwide. RBC was founded in Halifax in 1864 and now has headquarters in both Toronto and Montreal. RBC attempted to merger with BMO in 1998, but the merger was blocked by the Canadian government; the two banks merged their debit and credit processing services to create Moneris Solutions in 2000. The RBC logo of a lion, crown and globe is famous in Canada, remaining unchanged until RBC expanded in US markets, when they removed the crown. RBC has been recognized with many awards in the past few years, including the most 'valuable brand' in Canada and one of the worlds top 100 sustainable companies.
