Bank Of America Information, History, & Credit Cards

Bank of America is the largest commercial bank in the USA and its headquarters are located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The size of a bank is measured in deposits, whereas if it were measured in highest assets, Citigroup would be the largest bank. According to the 2006 edition of Forbes Global, Bank of America is the third largest company in the whole world, boasting a net income of $5.84 billion in the second quarter of 2006. The original founder of Bank of America was Amadeo Giannini who, after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, loaned money to disaster stricken citizens through his Bank of Italy. In 1929 Giannini merged his bank with the Los Angeles Bank of America which was run by Orra E. Monnette at the time. Giannini chose the name the bank: Bank of America NT&SA which stands for National Trust and Savings Association. In 1959 the bank invented the bank credit card, the BankAmericard, which in 1977 changed its name to VISA. Master Charge, or MasterCard was developed in order to compete with the BankAmericard.
